The client is a young first-time home buyer with a strong interest in fashion and the arts, and a cultural affinity for Italy, Japan, and Denmark. Due to a constant need to travel for work and leisure, the brief called for a home that provides both rest and relaxation and a backdrop for hosting and entertaining. The result is a cohesive eclecticism reflecting the client’s taste and preferences set against timeless, minimalist architectural elements.

Faced with a starter apartment with very compact spaces requiring high functionality, ADRO decided to apply an architectural language consisting of large geometric forms and light colors to give one the perception of both orderliness and expansiveness, undergirded by age-old architectural principles done subtly, and smart storage solutions. The client was then invited to inject their own personality and emotions through beloved art objects and furniture chosen with the designer. For example, a white, ceiling-height cabinet with clearly defined rectangular compartments takes center-stage in the dining area displaying mementos and books collected during the client’s travels. In the living area, an origami inspired ‘Paperwood Table’ from Ariaki, notable its for iridescent-blue oil finish and sourced from Japan, sits by the Scandinavia-inspired sofa.
